Just a general question about reactions to new topics

Perhaps this should be on the Rant board, but I have noticed for some time how so many opening posts receive a pretty good majority of negative votes.
Yet many of those threads get a lot of feedback. I understand that many don’t get agree with the views expressed in the OP, but I for one, am often glad to see someone introduce the new topic.
None of us are mind readers, so many (if not most) times, we don’t know why an opening post was downvoted.
