Are polls using upvotes/downvotes against the rules?

My poll thread was anchored and I received a private message saying not to use upvotes/downvotes as a poll feature. I don't see this rule in the guidelines, and if it is an unwritten rule I'm just wondering why.
I was disappointed to see the thread anchored. Constitutional rights, national security, and immigration reform are huge issues in this election and I think that thread was generating some great discussion.

Yeah, they've always been opposed to the up vote/down vote poll. However, there have been signs of new and exciting polling feature coming soon. It appears to have been recently alpha tested on the poliboard.

ETA2: I'm suprised your thread wasn't whacked.

Poll: Do you support eradication of Islam in America? I mean, really?!?

Yeah, it's an extreme proposition, and one that I do not advocate. But nearly half of the political talk voters were for it. When you have such a large segment who are for such extreme, unconstitutional measures, isn't it better to get it out in the open and discuss it instead of acting like those feelings don't exist?

So let it be written. So let it be done.
