Anyone here had this done on both hips? If so, did you do one and then a year later the other one? Or did you do bilateral hip replacement? Which is both at the same time.

Are you doing this? That sounds brutal.

My wife had both hers done very close together. They initially planned to do them aways apart but after the first one was done, she responded so well they did the other one month or two later.

I've had a hip replacement. I can't imagine they would do both at the same time. I'm sure they will do one and then the other. I actually underwent a total of 3 hip surgeries the culminated in the total hip replacement. It was not a fun year!!! Good luck. Enjoy the oxy.

I had both done on Friday. I’m doing a lot better than I expected and all the nurses and physical therapists have been shocked at my progress and my movement. I’m just wondering what else I can expect throughout the recovery.

I had both done because the arthritis in both hips had advanced so much that there was very little cartilage remaining in both hips. I figured I might as well get both done at the same time instead of having to go through the whole process twice.

As far as recovery, that’s been the crazy part. It’s been super easy for me. I’ve been getting in and out of bed by myself and walking easily with the walker. I started trying to walk a few hours after surgery and once the anthesia wore off some. I stayed one night in the hospital. All the nurses, physical therapists, and home health nurses are shocked at how well I’m doing with recovery and walking. I had no idea what to expect since this is my first surgery, but I definitely didn’t expect to be walking with a Walker this easy. I will say though that all the medicine I’m taking is making constipaton a bitch. Not to be gross, but I haven’t taken a shite since Thursday. I was able to get some gas out today, but nothing else. It sucks and gets real painful and miserable when I feel it in my stomach. The home health nurse who came over today said she could feel my stomach was hard where the stuff was trying to come out.

Being able to rip a fart is a good sign that normal function is returning to your bowels. Definitely not grossed out..but I hope you’re taking the stool softener and increasing you’re fiber. You do not want to deal with a fecal impaction. Not taking a dump since Thursday and it being Sunday is “pushing it” no pun intended. Did the nurse recommended a laxative? You might end up having to get a good ol’ saline enema. Make sure you stay close to the john after you take it because it will make you blow out you’re arse, several times possibly. Good luck with you’re recovery, definitely sounds like you have you’re mind right and that’s really important.

I just ate some chocolate chip cake and was finally able to take a shite. Although it wasn’t much at all and loose and runny, at least something came out lol. The home health nurse who came over today said I should take a laxative so I bought some and mixed it with Gatorade zero and had a huge glass earlier today. The directions on the box say to only take it once a day though. I was surprised by that.

Yeah I’ve been taking the stool softener twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.

Well, today makes exactly 4 weeks from my bilateral hip replacement surgery. I had my third session of out patient physical therapy today. I’m walking easy with a cane. I can take a shower easily, I can put mysocks and shoes on with the sock helper thing, I can walk around the house okay without a cane and I just use the sofa or counter or wall if I start to fall. The thing is my right side is so much damn weaker than my left side. I mean, neither side is back to normal obviously, but my right leg is pissing me off. Also, I am not getting any sleep at all. I’m normally a side sleeper and it’s too painful to try to sleep on my side now considering I have a couple hip precarious. So this means I’m stuck sleeping on my back and it’s awful. All I can get is 1-3 hour naps throughout the day and night.
