Not giving machines a fair shake and always opting to use free weights instead.
Not eating enough carbs.
Not adhering to a set workout plan and choosing workouts that I "felt" like doing too often.
Not setting goals.

All I will say is that looking jacked gets a lot easier after you’ve done the foundational work of adding a lot of weight to the bar and eating to sustain that, even if that initially means you get fatter than you’d like.
I went from 175 ish to 205 and was pudgy at 205. Now I fluctuate between 192-198 depending on how hard I’m training, what’s going on in life, etc and I feel way better about how I look and feel than I did before I gained all that weight.

For me, patience is a virtue. Its definitely not a sprint.
Plus as others mentioned, dieting and workout out with a purpose
