Running the 5/3/1 program. After a week of deload woke up with severe right shoulder pain behind my scapula that ran to my shoulder. Now the pain behind my shoulder is almost completely gone but there is still pain and weakness in my shoulder and it runs down my arm. Took 10 days off to see if that would help. Tried to do lite bench program yesterday and I could only get 135 5x times before right arm just gives out. Any suggestions on what it might be and any course of action to help it get better would be appreciated. I’m an older guy been working out 6x a week for a long time. I feel everyday I miss I’m getting further behind.

So many things this could be. Impingement is most common. Have you ever had shoulder issues before? Do you do rotator cuff exercises? Most neglected thing in the gym but it saves your shoulders.

Slight tear of my labrum 22 years ago. Never had surgery. Do a 10-15 warm up on shoulders/back before lifting, nothing specific to to rotator cuff.

I would rest it and if rest does not help, MRI. I had a shoulder scoped a few years back, I'll have my other done within the year. I feel your pain.

As much as I don’t want to I’m probably going to let it rest until the beginning of March to see if that helps. Just hate not to be lifting. I’m 46 and I know everyday I’m not getting after it I’m losing it. Thanks for the advice.

Id honestly look for a good masseuse and specify whats going on. at worst it couldnt hurt but may help an pinched nerves then give it a few days and ease back in

I had something very similar that I actually had surgery on Monday for. I had tendinitis on 1 biceps tendon and a partial on the other biceps tendon in the shoulder. Developed arthritis from because I ignored it for so long. Had the torn tendon relocated and the arthritis cleaned up. Hurting like a bitch now. With 6 weeks of therapy ahead. Don’t take your shoulders likely. If it doesn’t feel right, go see a dr.
