They both work shoulders about the same, one is just a variant.

So the studies show standing db engages the shoulders the most.

In the end none of this shite matters. Pick one or both and make a shite ton of progression on them strength wise in whatever rep range or lifting scheme you choose and then when you stall deload and set rep records. When you stall again, if you didn't make a huge jump from the first stall, switch the stalled lift for a variant.

Unless you are a powerlifter actually competing, the above is the simplest way to continue to make progress across the board in both strength and physique development.

Everyone over thinks this shite or has training ocd. Pick a lift or two or even three, progress as much as possible, switch lift out.

If it works for the monsters using doggcrapp and westside, works for those using the gslp, works for those using leangains etc it will work for you.
