Do you guys watch saturated fat intake or not? I want to get into powerlifting but want to do so without driving up my blood pressure. I’m fairly lean and eat a lot of good foods with a lot of not as healthy foods, so it’s possible my BP is (and it’s likely) related to stress and severe anxiety.

Have you seen a doctor? I would get checked if you have serious concerns about blood pressure, but I don’t see how powerlifting itself would raise your blood pressure outside of normal physical exertion ranges. I thought you were already powerlifting.

If you're trying to get into some serious powerlifting and be top dog, then gaining weight is going to have to happen. Besides the freak of natures at the top level, to get strong, you're going to have to get on shite and gain weight. Health isn't always top concern .

But if you just want to start powerlifting training, then just stick to leaner cuts.

Just kinda depends on what "getting into powerlifting" means. There's no weight requirement to start squatting, benching and deadlifting. Just go for it.

I’ve done big weights and I do powerlifting programs (with lots of paused reps, back work, etc). I’ve seen a doctor but I guess it’s just me getting bothered by anxiety again. The anxiety messing with my head

Only thing that’s held me back is that I want to be at a certain level before competing. Hitting certain number on bench press.

You should go and do a meet. Even if you don’t hit the numbers you want. Go get a feel for the flow and atmosphere. I do competitive strongman, and training for it is one thing, doing a comp is something else. It’s always good to get the experience, and build from that.

Don't wait to start competing before you find that number. Compete now. Get a membership to whatever fed you plan on joining, and just do the closest meet you can find. Trust me. You'll never be ready. You'll always want to wait until your dead is bigger, or your squat is bigger. Just start. Meets are really fun. I had a great time doing them. I wan never top dog, but I competed. Just got too expensive for my taste. I knew I was never going to be the top guy.

You keep that attitude then you’ll never compete

I agree. If you can do a competition style Squat, Bench, and Deadlift then you're ready to compete. Doesn't matter what your numbers are.

I just signed up for my next one on 3/12/2022 in Baton Rouge, and I can't wait. I'm not very strong at all, current total is 1060, but I love the atmosphere.
