I started using a push up app a couple of months ago. It doesn't give much instruction, but it seems like it wants me to do them everyday, which I normally do. But I keep hitting walls and if I take a day off once or twice a week I am able to push past those.

Should I be taking more days off? Like do them 3-4 days a week?

I am making decent progress. But nothing impressive. Also, I'm thinking about starting some other resistance training. If I'm training chest, would I have to cut off push ups all together or just do them on that day?

You can do as many pushups as you want with a regular lifting routine.

In fact, you should see a significant jump in your bench press from the pushups.

Assuming, of course, you are doing them correctly.

that depends....are you going to failure? what is total volume? in general i recommend no more than 6 days a week and never going close to failure

would recommend getting a set of gymnastic rings and hitting pullups, rows and bodyweight bicep curls for sure and tricep extensions. for legs, look into the knees over toes split squat, walking lunges and squat progressions.

This is me assuming you are wanting to not go to a gym

like i said, depends on total volume of the pushups, are the sets easy sets or are you goign to failure, are you in a caloric deficit etc.

The app does 5 sets of various reps. It cycles up and down, progressively moving up. Every once in a while it has me max out to see how many I can do. The most I've maxed at was 28 and highest total so far from all 5 sets was 88. It seems like it is punishing me (dropping my average) if I skip a day.

I'm still losing weight. So I'm still in a daily deficit, 300-500 calories a day. I've hit my goal weight for the year (sub 180). So I could ease up a bit.

I don't know. I live close to a few and I'm thinking about trying again. I live in a smaller apartment, so not a ton of room there. I do have a rowing machine and the complex has a nice gym. It just seems like I need to kick it up a notch..

A few years ago I did the 10,000 push-ups in a month challenge. (About 330/day)

I didn’t notice much of a difference.
