Possible for floor to be too soft for scale?

Probably a stupid topic, but I don’t have anything else to do. So, I live on the second floor of my apt complex. Faux wood floors bc I’m not an OT baller. My scale stopped registering my correct weight when i moved here in September. I’ve had it for about 3 or 4 years now. It’ll say I’m anywhere between 179-191 lbs depending where I stand in my apt. If I use my cousin’s scale at his place, it’ll say 200-205 usually, which is where i usually weigh in. If I take my scale downstairs and put it on concrete, it’ll register similar to my cousin’s. Still off about 1-4 lbs usually. So are my floors too soft maybe or is it just time for a new scale? It’s a Weight Gurus digital.

Is it battery operated? Might need a new battery.

Is it abnormally cold or hot? My scale is affected by the cold floor in winter even with the heat on.

Maybe try putting a 20 lb. weight on it in each place and see what it measures the 20 lbs out to be, if you haven’t already tried that. Other than that, I’m out of ideas. Might be time for a new one.

Yes. Any scale no matter what type (truck scale, floor scale, bench scale, balance, etc.) must be on a solid surface to get accurate readings. It's possible that your scale will still be off even on a solid surface just because of what type it is, but you'll never get good readings if the surface it sits on has any give to it. Part of the reason to never trust scales in doctors offices. They're usually sitting on carpet, plus the nurses don't know how to use them properly if they're the mechanical style.

So I was in denial that my awesome scale couldn't be broken, but it was.
I bought a new one and it's pin point on the money. These fake wood floors have me going crazy sometimes because they are pretty soft, but this new scale measures up with the one at my cousin's garage gym.
Anyway, I'm down from 217 lbs on January 1st to 192 as of today. I'm happy regardless.
