I had a major issue in my trap that radiated up, into the base of my skull and then further tp the back of my head. There are apparently thin muscles that extend up the back of your neck through/into you scalp. The pain was from the top of my head through my left trap.
My PT friend said that its a common pain typically associated with whiplash and crossfitters, and gave me some stretches. Also did 2 sessions of dry point needling directly into my trap (like way, way into my trap). Felt better after about 2 weeks. Take anti-inflammatories and stretch.

Consider going to urgent care for trigger point injections. Ordinarily the medical professionals use a drug called lidocaine, which will stop the pain and improve range of motion issues immediately.
Having had many trigger point injections myself, there are side-effects and potential adverse reactions with other medications you may be taking. So, keep that in mind.
