Neck pain/ headache from bench press?

A week ago I was finishing last rep on bench press and felt a “pop” near the back of my head followed by intense headache at base of skull and upper neck.
Headache is positional and is less intense when laying flat. Had an MRI of head to rule out anything vascular, results were normal.
My form is good, I wasn’t going for a personal best or single rep max, everything seemed under control. No breath holding, I exhale as I’m pushing the bar up. Just trying to figure out how long this headache will take to go away and how to avoid it occurring again in the future.

A joint might have popped. It's very painful but you have to keep moving the muscles it they will lock up

I strained a muscle in my neck 2 weeks ago while squatting. Think I was trying too hard to keep my head up so I didn't lean forward. I've had a headache in the back of my head / base of my skull ever since. I think Sunday was the first day that I didn't have to take an Aleve to dull the pain. Feeling much better today and I think I'm ready to lift again.

Any suggestions for preventing this from happening?

Same exact thing happened to me when I was a little younger. It was frightening.
I immediately stopped working out that day. Took a couple days off from the gym and it happened again 2 days later as soon as I tried to lift weights.
Took 3 weeks off and it hasn’t happened since.
In hindsight, I probably should have gone to the Dr

Don't know who down voted me but if you ever popped a facet joint, you'll know what I'm talking about.

It's strengthening and being in the correct positions.

I’ve read conflicting info regarding chin position during bench. ( tucked vs. neutral ) There are also seems to be disagreements regarding keeping head off of bench to avoid pressure on cervical spine.
What would you advise for protecting facet joints?

Do you lift for strength or size? Size doesn't mean weak in this scenario.
If strength, really look into proper technique with the shoulders pinched together and most of the pressure is on your back and lats. I pick up my head a tiny bit but nothing like Mark Bell or people similar. The issue with this technique is that it doesn't hot the chest as much.
For size, create less of an arch and flare your elbows a little more. Don't worry about touching so much since you aren't competing. If you aren't worried about touching, you aren't worried about your head coming off to see if it did.
