Hamstring pain

My son first developed a sharp pain in his left hammy just below his butt. We shut down all physical activities, heat/cold treatment, CBD lotion. Started various exercises I found online. After over a month the pain has reduced but lingers. Is it time for PT?

Was there any mechanism of injury? When does he feel the pain? What exercises was he doing? If it’s a hamstring strain/tendinopathy, they need to be progressively loaded also working on strategically increasing loading in lengthened positions, but that’s if it’s a hamstring strain and not something else
quote:Probably not a bad idea. If it just started out of nowhere, could warrant a doctor’s visit, but they would likely send to PT without doing much else to start with anyway

He plays basketball and resistance training. Not heavy as he is only 12. He was at a BB camp when I noticed him with a limp. I pulled him immediately.

Have him use a massage roller regularly. Also rest and ice are good, though after a while that leads to atrophy that can cause other issues. Find some light exercises he can do to increase strength.
Couldn’t hurt to go to a pt a few times just to get a routine down and then do it at home.

Thanks. I’ll invest in the roller. My daughter plays volleyball and BB as well. I’m sure she can also use as preventive.
Update. Did about 30 min. of light shooting. And did arms (resistance) no issues observed. I’ll look into preventive maintenance for him as well.
Thanks
