Longtime lurker here this is gonna be a long one.

Used to be around 450lbs

Around March 2016 decided I did not want to die at 40, wear clothes that fit, and see my bits and pieces ya know the simple things.

I started taking pre workout and weight training with cardio 6 times a week and lost around 140lbs. Also worked retail on my feet all damn day so logged around 12k steps a day and felt great.

However around the end of 2018 job and personal life got super stressful which I went back to my old standby of fried foods and M&M Peanuts which caused me to get backup to 360lb

Well also I began to have burning in my chest and extreme trouble swallowing food. Also while doing tricep pulldowns I got dizzy, lightheaded, could not breathe, and heart racing to about 180 bpm. Ignored it calmed down and got on Prilosec 40mg which brought everything to normal.

Until 3/19 which I went to the ER for them to say everything is fine. Endoscopy says I have GERD and Gastritis.

Echo, Carotid scan, Stress Test, EKG, 30 Day Holter all fine. Calcium score is zero. Gas still causes difficulty to breathe during exercise even with something as resistance bands. Also during or slightly after workouts heart will jump by about 40-50 bpm for no reason which kicks the anxiety into overdrive. Vicious cycle

So has anyone encountered this before or have advice of how to alleviate it. I have cut out most sugars, processed carbs, very little dairy, and no red meat. I am at a loss and want to workout like normal again.

TLDR: Fatarse trying to get better and was doing fine but GERD is making exercise of any type a living hell.

I have it too. Gaviscon helps when I remember to take it. Sleeping with your head elevated is supposed to help too. Mine comes and goes. Sometimes pretty bad, other times I hardly notice it. I've read that things like heavy squats aggravate it, which makes intuitive sense. Not enough to make me give them up though.

I have GERD from hiatal hernia, and been on nexium for 15 years. I was 260lb and got down to 220 but still bad gerd. I went low carb (around 40-50 carbs/day) about 6 weeks ago and my GERD has been significantly better than its ever been. Idk if it’s the low carb or the fact I’m eating much less/smaller portions.

I’ve had gastritis along with gallbladder inflammation. I can’t tell you how much managing stress will help alleviate a lot of your inflammation. I know for me it started at a stressful time, then those things ended and I was stressed about not feeling well constantly. It was a vicious circle. It robbed me a good part of a year, including my son’s first year. Once I started to recognize day to day things that would compound how I felt, started to relax more. Along with a few supplement changes(I don’t know how much was placebo) but gradually things got better. I hope the issue resolves itself soon.

I have talked with one and it was suggested to do all whole wheat carbs and chill out with the fat.

I have done that and it gets better sometimes but then with any exertion it will flare up again.

Appreciate the response

I appreciate the responses though I am going to try the low carb thing and I have been doing IF which seems to be helping a little.

I had GERD pretty bad. Had scopes done which showed nothing. Dr. wanted to put me on medicine but the data on long term usage was starting to come out so I chose not too.

What really did the trick for me was doing IF and using a good probiotic in the morning and eating greek yogurt before bed. Whatever was wrong it fixed . Now I have no issues at all unless I do something dumb like eat way too much mexican or pizza in the evening.
