Drinking coffee while dieting

Not coming to you with the usual, is it breaking my fast if I drink coffee question. But, here is what I was wondering.
I'm not a big coffee drinker at all. Maybe only drink it 2-3 times per month. Sometimes I would crave a cup at night for some reason. Always drank a cup or two and had zero issues going to sleep at night.
I've been dieting since the beginning of the year and have dropped nearly 30 lbs. I've drank coffee twice and have absolutely not been able to sleep both times.
First time, I had woken up at 5AM that morning. It was 7PM and I was falling asleep sitting up almost. Didn't want to go to bed that early, so I made some coffee to maybe give me a little energy. I drank 2 cups, went to bed around 9:30. At 1 I finally got up because I hadn't slept one single bit. Ended up going to work at 3AM just because I was so wide awake. Didn't take a nap until 2 PM. So I was awake from 5AM on Monday till 2PM on Tuesday.
Second scenario was today. I made a pot of coffee at about 1:30 PM. Drank two small cups. And here I am again, not being able to sleep for shite.
(Hardly putting any sugar or cream in it either. It's almost black)
Is the coffee doing something different, now that I'm pretty strictly dieting, that is causing me to not be able to sleep? I've never had this problem before. Or is it just a coincidence?

If you drink coffee, why not stick to one cup instead of 2 and before noon. If it's after, just don't drink any

I think I found the problem. After 7PM, caffeine is a no no. I found that if I'm getting sleepy earlier in the evening, drinking water will help keep me awake. Like a full glass, or 2, either really cold or hot, both work fine.
As far as breaking a fast, I don't think drinking coffee is an issue as long as you don't add a bunch of sugar/sugar substitutes/cream to it. The calories in black coffee are negligible.

The only time I can drink it late (4:00pm) and still go to sleep successfully is if I go exercise (run or ride my bike, but I’m talking a hard arse interval ride) right after it. Then as weird as it is I actually crash(but not in a bad way, I just get t really tired really quickly) after my post workout meal.
Otherwise I can’t drink it after 3pm.

Works wonders for hunger. My coffee intake does increase quite a bit when I diet for this reason.
You can always get decaf if you want to avoid the caffeine later in the day.

Caffeine has a half life of 6 hours so don’t drink it 6 hours prior to bed.

Black coffee has almost zero calories. It’s perfectly fine to drink it while dieting. Your problem is that you drink it too late. I don’t drink coffee after 1 pm. If I do, I go to bed really late.

I will say that coffee has a stronger effect on my sleeping when I'm eating at a deficit as well.

Yeah, that is what I was questioning. I know about the fasting stuff. I was just making a joke (an unsuccessful one apparently) because seems tons of people ask if coffee breaks a fast.
Drinking coffee has never ever been a problem for me when I wasn't dieting. Both times, since dieting, it has kept me up all night. I actually still haven't slept from yesterday morning at 8 AM. Even played a round of golf this morning. I didn't know if the caffeine had some kind of different effect on me since I'm dieting, or if it was a coincidence.
