insulin is not that hard to figure out
My MIL is a Type 2 that gets her insulin from a pump. You have to be pretty precise with how much insulin you give yourself based on what foods you eat (or actually how many carbs you take in). Granted my MIL is not eating to win an Olympia but it's not rocket science to dial in the correct dosage. it is however a lot of trail and error to get it right. One bad frick up and you are having serious issues and possibly be dead.
I really have no clue how a bodybuilder that is non-diabetic taking in that many calories per day can dial in the correct dose of insulin and be safe given their bodies are already producing insulin. I know that shite has been used in the game for a while but I think it's stupid to roll those dice.

That's why would I would surprised with insulin because the amount of food that accompanies insulin use. He wasn't prepping for the Olympia either, so he was most probably in a surplus or at maintenance. If IQ was required to use insulin safely, bodybuilders would be dropping like flies. In any case, by all accounts he seemed like a genuinely nice guy in an industry littered with scummy people.

Insulin is commonly incorporated in the "bridge" between AAS cycles.
