Ankylosing spondylitis?

I’ve been running a lot for about 15 years now, off and on, and at about age 28 I started getting this dull lower back ache that would come and go, sometimes sticking around for weeks without end. It’s not exactly progressing rapidly, but it’s also obviously never going to go away. It took me years and years, but I finally think I’ve figured it out. It’s the above, an autoimmune disease. Interestingly, when I go keto it disappears completely, and when I start eating carbs again, it comes roaring back. My case is mild, and I’m not here to complain. I’d just like to ask if anyone else has experienced this, or knows someone who has, and whether you have any insight into the condition and potential treatments. I’ll hang up and listen.

I've had it since 17 years old. My case is moderate to severe without medication. It progressed to complete fusion of my SI joints and my spine through my L4 vertebrae before I started treatment on Humira. I'm 42 now and still on Humira but the medication stopped the progression of spinal fusion. Keto diet also helps tremendously to keep it in check when I can stick to the diet. The only other advice I have is to stretch and stay moving. Worst thing you can do is sit in a chair or at a desk.

Never had it, but I’ve had a herniated disc and the pain from that is probably similar if not worse. Arthritis of the spine is very common when you get past a certain age, and that’s what ankylosing spondylitis basically is. A lot of people have arthritis and don’t even realize it because they often have no pain.
With dull achey back pain, NSAIDs, hot baths, and resting in the supine position are the three best remedies for alleviating it. That’s how I dealt with a fully extruded disc
