Been able to get my handicap from 15 to current 8.6 in about 18 months.. would like to cut it in half by next spring..
That is impressive improvement.
What were the steps?
Lessons?
Practice?
Management?
Full swing?
Short game?
Putting?
I use to be 7.5, but have not broken through to single digits this year.

Thank you.. I've really been putting as much work in as possible practice a couple time a week play 2-3 times a week as well..

It is definitely been a combination of a all of those.. I started with lessons took a few from a few different people took minor things from each really just adjusting things in my swing.. Practice, (mainly on short game) and course management I feel have been the biggest contributors..
Once I figure out that I really didn't need to hit the driver on every par 4 and 5 because driver is still my biggest weakness to this day I started seeing improvement. And I learned that I didn't have to attempt to break the sound barrier with the driver nor do i want to anymore.. I'm 44 I don't bend like I once did.. Working a really good tempo was the one thing I started doing .. Because keeping the ball in play is definitely the key... So that kinda ties back to the course management. Since I play my home course so often It's gotten to where I have a very methodical approach to playing it and that has helped... Being comfortable in my shots is another factor.. That's the one thing I try to instill in my daughter since she plays tournament golf is that the toughest part of any course is the 6 inches of grey between your ear's..
Now , Short game and putting.. I really and truly don't practice putting as much as i should but i also don't 3 putt a lot.. maybe once every other round maybe... It's always been the easiest part of the game for me.. No fancy tricks I just read the green and go with my gut and so far its been fine.. Could I fine tune it, absolutely but I never felt that putting was costing me a ton of strokes... Short game still gives me fits from time to time but it's been my main focus and still feel like it's been the key to lowering scores.. My main focus in practices is really honing in on certain distances and trying to hit them with a variety of shots and clubs.. Punch shots, flighted shots, you name it.. I'm trying to hit shots form 120 in with as much precision as possible..
I probably could talk for hours on this, but I feel like I've type too much already..

I always say “it’s a simple game, keep it in play, and hole out.”
Thanks for expanding. It sounds like you’ve really tried to analyze the course and keep the ball in play, and chip/pitch closer.
I need to get some more distance or move up a tee(again!).
My putting has held me back some this year as well.

Yeah.. I play my home course Pelican Point and Greystone a lot .. so I know all the holes by heart at this point . So I try to play them the same... Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.. If I'm playing a new course I do a hole by hole overview and try to plot out a plan.. definitely helps

I've done the speed training deal (believe Bryson talks about it)where you go to the range and go absolutely all out not caring so much where it goes, but just trying to gain speed.. While you do look a bit amateurish it's help speed my up a bit.. Unfortunately it's also a bit taxing on the body ..
