Briefly heard Xander tell Morikawa this. I didn't catch exactly what happened with Morikawa's ball. I think this has something to do with marking the ball while at rest, but when you place ball back over marker then it moves after you've lifted the marker and are over the put, you can estimate the spot because you did everything else in good faith leading up to that moment with no penalty. Is this correct? First time I ever heard one golfer tell another golfer that without one of the officials stepping in.

It was correct. Rule 13.1d(2)

quote:

2) When to Replace Ball Moved by Natural Forces. If natural forces cause a player’s ball on the putting green to move, where the player must play from next depends on whether the ball had already been lifted and replaced on the putting green (see Rule 14.1):

• Ball Already Lifted and Replaced. The ball must be replaced on the spot it moved from (which if not known must be estimated) (see Rule 14.2), even though it was moved by natural forces and not by the player, the opponent or an outside influence (see Rule 9.3, Exception).
