Need to get opinions on the courses at SanDestin. Family reunion in April, wide range of golf skills, money is really not an issue. Also, what kind of shape they are in for this time of year.

LINKS - Oldest of the courses....tends to be in decent shape. Kinda narrow at times. Does have a pretty stretch of holes that run adjacent to the Bay. Does feel a little dated. I have only played it once - - primarily because the other options are nicer.

BAYETOWN - An ego boost on a fun tract. Blues play from 6000 and it is not overly difficult. COurse tends to be in good shape, but greens have recently recovered from a two year explosion where they were crap. I played in a few month ago and it looks like they have it back under control. I ejoy the 3 holes that play west of Hwy 98....13 is a long uphill par 4, 14 is a postcard picture of a par 3 and 15 is a reachable par 5.

RAVEN - The harder of the 3 public courses and probabaly the best shape. If you are looking for the best quality - - this is your bet. Will play more difficult but pick the correct tees and enjoy.

BURNT PINE - Private Course, but if you get on with a member it is a real treat. Bring lots of ammo - -water comes into play on a ton of holes and it is a challenge.

My preference, in order:
1) Links. Yes, oldest, but IMO the most scenic with several holes overlooking the bay.
2) Raven. Looks like most every other residential golf club in Fla, is the toughest of the public courses.
3) Burnt Pine. I’ve only played it a couple times, is absolutely a beautiful test, but may not be worth the hassle of trying to get on.
4) Baytowne. Feels more “gimmicky” than the other 2 public courses.

Agree with the other opinions and will only add that the Links probably has the most water of all the public courses.

I think they finally got control of them. I played not long ago and they looked good….. a little shaggy and needed to be cut but I assume they were allowing the longer growth to establish some root strength.

The course is 50+ years old and has never had the greens redone.

So know I’m hearing we should try to plan Indian Bayou, thoughts?

Indian Bayou has a place in my heart as I grew up playing that course with my dad when we would go to Destin. It's usually in good shape and has a few challenging holes. There are no really scenic holes, but its a nice track that in great shape. The staff there are always friendly. They have old school dimple mugs in the bar.
