Who has played this course? I know its the 9 hole course and Ive only played the Links. Is it comparable in quality, length, and difficulty?

I played it twice when it was still 18 holes and always enjoyed the layout. It wasn’t as “nice” as the links... smaller, and the holes didn’t have as many design features as the links. Not a bad track though. My buddy’s only hole in one was on one of the holes that don’t exist anymore, so I tell him it doesn’t count.

Played it last weekend in a scramble. Greens rolled nicely. Fairways were firm, but not too much hardpan.

The greens roll pretty well. Had some weeds in the fringes but overall in ok shape. The layout was much better as an 18 hole course but is still good for a casual round. Little overpriced tho.

It’s fun. Fairly short with smaller greens. The nine that was shut down had more interesting holes I thought. Both courses at Pelican have lost green size over the last ten years. Greens are always in good shape though.

The Lakes was designed by the same guy as Greystone I believe.

I used to play out there every couple of months, probably been 5-6 years since I last played the Lakes. Why and when did they close the 9 holes?

Several years back. Original plan was to close entire 18 but lawsuit from homeowners wouldn't allow it I believe. The course was built for tournament play and allow membership to play The Links. It never worked out right and became a money pit.
