Link is busted but I googled it. I would have thought FL would have a low average index with all the golf there. Guess it’s mostly retirees who aren’t actually worth a flip at golf. Very strange that MS and LA are #1 and #2. Poorest states with the best golfers.

Yeah, on initial thought I would have said FL but thinking about it...it makes since that FL is last. Similar to why AZ is also one of the highest handicap states. I can't really explain MS ..LA,AR,AL etc except. Someone has to have the lowest and it makes more sense that it's a state isn't snow covered for several months

I’ve always thought that if you can play the poor golf courses in LA well, then your game can travel well. When you start playing on courses with plush grass in the fairways and bent grass greens the game seems a little easier.

Main reason id guess is smaller and younger populations lead to an increased ratio of serious golfers vs hackers.
Then add in year round golf like you mentioned and you get the states that you do.

This is the answer imo. Golf is very popular with the upper and upper middle class in MS and surprisingly the state has some very fine courses. Couple that with MS not having a ton of shite to do except golf, hunt/fish and college football you get a population that is serious about golf and plays year round.
