I’m not the OP, but I shank 3 woods OB all the time. It’s a myth that it’s more accurate than a driver.

For the first time in my life, I’ve recently been absolutely crushing my 3 wood with perfect ball flights.

But I’m still prone to banana slice one 400 yards 90 degrees to the right. Weirdly that happens more off the tee however, I’m better out of the fairway with it. But it happens.

I shoot in the low 80s

When I hit a dreaded s***k, it was with a wedge. Thank goodness it wasn't often.

Let me make sure I understand. Do you banana slice a 3 wood 400 yards to the right?

Haha no I was exaggerating.

My miss with my 3 wood is a giant slice tho. It’s great contact now, but a huge slice. Sounds like I was struggling with the same issues as the OP. I’d either top the hell out of it, or hit that massive slice. Those were really my only 2 results with 3 wood and it was the reason I would never use the club.

The past couple months I’ve had some more time to focus on my game, and I have been hitting the piss out of that club to the point where it has become one of my favorite clubs.

For whatever reason I hit it much better off the fairway then off the tee (the slice comes into play more when i tee it up) which seems counterintuitive, but it has been better than not. I posted in the other thread about “the best shot from your last round” that I nutted a green from around 260 with it. It’s not always reliable like that, but I’m learning to be more comfortable pulling it out during a round.

But to answer your question. I typically hit my 3 wood in that 250ish range if it’s going straight. My slice miss goes about 50-75 ( maybe more) yards offline to the right tho. It is a really big banana slice. So it’s been a pretty big deterrent from ever using the clubs before the past couple months. As others said, I was always better off laying up with an iron and not ever going for a green in 2, then losing a ball and taking a penalty with a wasted 3 wood. Luckily that’s changed a bit now. Hope it does for the OP as well. Just clear the head and swing that sucker like it wants to be hit

Hit it like you would a 5 iron. And quit being a pussy when you swing.

Problem is that when I do it goes as far as my 4 iron, right around 200-210

Which one do you hit more consistently out of your 4i and 3w? If it's the 4i then I'd switch out the 3w for a 4w, 5w, or extra wedge...

FWIW, I rarely hit my 3w. It's in the bag because I've taken it out and wished I had it. Wont do that again... It's more of a "I want something forgiving and straight... dont care how far it goes" kinda club for me.

I had always been able to hit my old fairway woods and I changed to some taylormade metal woods a few yrs ago. I cannot hit them for anything. I recently found that the TM’s are about 1.5 deg higher lie (shaft to ground angle) than normal. I since got a Titliest 3 wood and I have had better results...
