Two most important stats in improving your handicap, in my opinion, are

1) # of GIR
2) 3-putts/# of putts

If my numbers are good in those I shoot low 80's. If bad in one or both I am in the 90's. I am a 14 HC.

Also, I improved the most when I put my ego to the side. I used to get satisfaction from being able to say "I got 151 to the green, pitching wedge" It took me playing with guys that were better than me and could hit it farther than me, but chose not to hit it farther. They always took one less club and put a good swing on it, meanwhile I was taking a shorter club and swinging out of my shoes.

PGA teaching professional and several hours a week 50 yards in.

Hit the practice area with wedge, putter, and 15 balls. Gets boring at times, but can almost instantly shave 5 strokes.

Yeah I really enjoy working on wedge game though. I get kinda bored pounding balls on the range.

Eliminated shanks, duffs, worm burners, and 3 putts. I watched a lot of seniors and ladies play and that shaped my current routine on the course. I no longer try to hard and treat every iron shot with the mindset that if I only get 150 out of it, where do I want it to land. The game slowed down a lot for me, and I went from 90's to consistently 91-83s.

Now, i am trying to get down into the 70s. I think the next step to do that is to go get fitted officially.

Just went to the range 3-4 times a week. I'd usually chip/pitch for 45 minutes, putt for an hour, hit 10 balls with every club in my bag. Then I would play a round, on the range. Dropped my hcp from 22 to 14 in a summer.
