Golftec Fitting
Anyone ever do one? Thoughts or recs?

Ignore the company doing it and focus on the actual fitter you will be doing it with. You can usually find either golf digest list or other specific reviews to fitters in your area. The nicer the place, the less likely you will get someone who is crappy and/or doesn't have experience, but it still can be a crap shoot.

What can I expect pricing wise? Standard clubs are ranging anywhere from 900-1300 and that’s kind of where I would like to be. I guess what I am trying to say is I really don’t want to pay 2000 for a 1300 set of clubs because they are “custom”

My 16yo son was fitted at Club Champion in Little Rock 2 months ago and he had a whole bag fitting and this is the info i received. Your irons, wedges and putter won't cost more than they would at Edwin Watts, Golf Galaxy etc.. unless you are getting a weird shaft put in them, most of the iron shafts are stock and will be installed by the manufacturer, the loft, lie, lenghth and weight will be adjusted by them as well at no extra cost. In fact, you can get the numbers from the fitting and order them off of the manufacturers website yourself. You can have premium grips installed for an added price.
Now the driver, fairway wood and hybrids are another story. The shaft is what makes the difference. You can't buy those off the rack at golf stores, I have a Taylormade Sim 2 with a Fujikura ventus blue stiff shaft that i bought from Edwin Watts for $400, i bought the previous years model new, my son tried lots of different shafts and club heads and the Titliest TSR2 with a Fujikura Ventus blue 6S shaft was the winner. The irons, Taylormade P790 with KBS C-Taper Lite 110S shaft with his measurements, P-4 were $1200 just like in the big box stores but the diver was $1050. I said damn, why so much more for the driver, well even though we both have a Fujikura Ventus blue shaft, they are not the same. His has a Velocore insert that is not a stock option shaft, this is what the pros use and it makes a huge difference, I hit it several times and it feels different, the ball feels like its rocketing off of the club face compared to mine. I bought him the putter, irons and driver and his game has improved over the last few months. It's was worth it to me since he's trying to play competitively in High School and a local summer HS tournament league.
