Surprising my dad with a trip to South Carolina for Christmas. Booked the flights into Charleston.

Any suggestions on courses, and where to stay? Looking to play 3-4 rounds, so I don’t necessarily need all of them to be on the high end. Also, is it doable to make day trips to Hilton Head / Myrtle / Kiawah?

Thanks in advance.

If staying in Charleston, Kiawah is your closest/nicest option. With HH and Myrtle you’re looking at ~2 hours each way. Not too bad, but Kiawah is closer to 30 mins. Also have a wide variety of courses (not just Ocean course) for varying skill levels and $$$. If you want to ball out and are in the financial position to play the Ocean Course, ya gotta.

It's cold as a MF and even more wet towards Greenville and the upstate. There's still snow patches on the ground.

Not too sure about the Charleston area, but wanted to make you aware.

Make the trip to Myrtle Beach, you could stay there for 30 days and play a different course every day.

Kiawah has a bunch of good courses. The Ocean Course is pretty spectacular.

Patriots Point is just over the bridge from the Penninsula and is fun/has some good views. Stono Ferry is also fun to play and not high end.

Wild Dunes is a nice course and you must do Ocean Course you’re going up there. Day trip is easy.

Booked through one of the agencies out there to get a better rate on hotels. We have 3 tee times over the weekend: Coosaw Creek, The Ocean Course and The Links at Stono Ferry.

Don’t know much about the other two, but it looks like we’re going to have some good golfing.

I went about 5 years ago and didn’t play the ocean course. I’ll continue to post here

Like somebody else said, patriots point and stono ferry were both enjoyable. I also played RiverTowne and liked it. Avoid Charleston national. That place was a dump

Solid line-up. You won't be disappointed. I haven't played Coosaw Creek before, but have heard good things.

Like someone else said, if you wanted to snag a fourth round, definitely play Patriots Point. $50-$75 depending on when you play, and you shouldn't have trouble getting on. Outstanding views.

Looks like Patriots Point has a free round if its your birthday. His birthday is during the trip, so that could be a really cheap afternoon round.

Going in March, playing Osprey instead of the ocean course. Gonna wait and do it in a couple more years.

I didn't know that about Patriots Point, but that's a good note to store in the memory bank.

Forgive my lack of knowledge on this but after looking up the pricing for The Ocean course, what makes it worth 397 bucks per person to play? I get that its a beautiful course but is it bc it has hosted multiple PGA’s and other big name tournaments? Or just bc the market allows it so thats their price?

Keeps the riffraff away. It’s an amazing course. I have played many nice courses including Pebble, Augusta National and Brandon Dunes and the Ocean Course ranks up there with the best of them.
But my favorite course I’ve played is Kapalua Plantation Course.
