You are wanting me to take such hyperbole seriously?
This topic starter was about extreme characterization of individuals, do you realize that?
All you have done here is to make yourself Exhibit A.

No issue with Elder this year, but don’t act like it is an accident.
If it happened 10 years ago it wouldn't have been an accident.
You and people like you are so jaded by politics you can't acknowledge that this was positive and a cool thing

It's not hyperbole, he loves the camera and loves to make it about himself. It may not bother you that he does it, and that's fine, but it's definitely true.

I think he's woefully unself aware at best and a total narcissistic a-hole more likely.
He may have been nice to you, that doesn't change his countless actions over the years
If he didn't have anything to do with that bullshite stunt this morning then he needs to say so, until then it reflects on him and there's no way to spin it any other way than it was really bad.

So when should they have honored someone of color and who should it have been?
They’ve had almost 40 years to honor Lee Elder but only chose to do so in the year of George Floyd and BLM. #sobrave

Should have just never done it since they did it too late anyway.
You're a fricking idiot

I don’t see the big issue with elder being an honorary starter.
Was he selected for his performances in the Masters? No.
Does his presence help share his story and potentially give black kids (or anyone for that matter) someone to lookup and learn about? Yes.
Elder even said today that he doesn’t hold any bitterness of the acts of racism he came across back in the day. That’s the message everyone should be sharing instead of cancel culture BS.

From a Golf Digest article
quote:
When the 40th anniversary of Elder’s first Masters appearance arrived in 2015, Augusta mayor Hardie Davis declared Thursday of tournament week “Robert Lee Elder Day,” and Gary Player advocated for a party that took place away from the course.
What an a-hole

It didn’t bother me at all, but I’m fixated on the fact that some in this thread are more than happy to hide their head in the sand as to why Augusta National is doing this for the first time this year.
In what year wouldn’t someone think it pandering? 2022? 2025?
When would it need to happen wherein you’d decide it was sincere?

Since Player wasn't playing in the tournament, what should he have done?
Posted on 4/8/21 at 10:29 pm to Choupique19
That's great, he did a good thing. Yet you keep ignoring all the bad shite.
Dick head people still do good things. I'm not calling the guy Hitler, he's just a self centered arse hole as shown again this morning.
He also had some remark that he "pushed through" with Ridley getting Elder as an honorary starter so he'll make sure he let's you know he did a good deed.

Neither do I. I just acknowledge why AN figured out this year that they needed to do so.
But the original topic of this thread is about idiots who are taking shots at Gary Player without knowing that Player has been fighting alongside Lee Elder to open the doors of golf to black people. Player has been a great friend of Elder’s since early 1970s.

Was that before or after he agreed with state sponsored segregation?
Im not saying Judge him solely on that, but let's not act like it's all rainbows and butterflies either

Like getting Elder into the South African professional golf events in 1971 even though blacks weren’t allowed to play with whites back then?
I promise you Lee Elder is very thankful for Gary Player. I’ll take his word on the matter over yours.

He did a good thing, I applaud him for that. He's also done a bunch of not good things.
On top of the not good things he's narcissistic as frick

Oh, so we can hate everyone that ever walked the face of the earth who did some bad things in their past. I didn’t realize we only spoke good about people who have lived perfect lives.

Has anything Gary Player said and/or done impacted the life of anyone posting in this thread?

Okay, and why?
The article throws it out there but never says why, letting the reader assume the worst if they do choose.
Player attended and spoke at an event honoring Elder’s Masters anniversary and 17 other black golfers. In 2015.
Clearly given the timing that was pandering. They should have waited until 2021, huh? Oh, wait, you’d label it pandering no matter the timing. Because, muh, white people BAD.

His dick head son took over my Twitter feed the Thursday morning of a beautiful masters for being a dick head.
At least he didn't steal anybodys money or assault anybody this time though.
