I thought with Ernie making his debut on the Champions tour that he would blow the field away with his length and skill set.

But when I saw him slowly lumber off a green today, I realized that father time has caught up to him like me.

Today is not his day, but hopefully he will make his mark out there.

I will never forget standing behind him on number 18 at the Woodlands TPC. He pulled his drive a little so that left him a 180 yard shot off of a bumpy dirt hard pan.

He looked at his lie and told his caddie I love this lie and I can get a 6 iron there over the water, I told my buddy no way.

He took a smooth Ernie swing and put it 3 feet away for birdie.

Seeing those dudes up close is wild, it’s not even the same game they are playing that you play.

Yup. I love the champions tour. They are way more relaxed and approachable than the pga tour. Plus it’s free to go watch them. I think it was 3 years ago I watched Jack put his approach shot from 150 or so out within a foot. I just smh and smiled.

The sound the ball makes when they hit it is different.

A plus handicap golfer you might know is not even in the same realm as those dudes.

Even some random tour player like a Ryan Palmer or a Chez Revie is absolutely sick at golf.

I use to play in a skins game years ago with guys like Tim Hobby, Rex Caldwell and Paul Marquette. I couldn't hang score wise with them, but I was a long hitter and I could make birdies back then.

All 3 of those guys made multiple attempts at Q School and never could make it. Tim won the US Mid Amateur one year. He always said that it was a putting contest out there.

When Pavin won the US Open at Shinnecock years ago, Tim's name came across the screen at 1 under par on Friday morning, next time that I saw his name, he was 9 over....

No doubt, at that level it’s almost all mental.

All of those dudes can strike it, they can’t all putt.

This is spot on. I always go to the Insperity in Houston. Easy walk... last year Steve Flesh’s caddie shot the shite with me for about 4 holes.

It's really not...

I played with a dude that had played in college and dabbled in one of the lesser pro tours, but never sniffed THE tour...and even his game was ridiculous.

That old PGA commercial that claimed, "These guys are good...", was spot-fricking-on.

Looks like I need to buy a case of Mark Brodie's book "Every Shot Counts", and pass it out to everyone

Nugget,

I plan to go up and see Trevor at his shop in a few weeks.

Thinking about doing a putter fitting at his shop.

I am playing Champions GC Thursday and I am bringing my 35 year old Anser out of the closet.

I haven’t played it since their reno a couple years ago, but I heard it’s great.

Which course are you playing?

Cypress course.

Those huge greens give me fits picking the right club.
