Just now moving into a new house that house some backyard room to put a swing area. I’ve never done this before, so I was wondering if anyone has some experience on the best way to set up an area without completely breaking the bank for no reason. It would have to be in the backyard since the garage isnt closed in and doesn’t have much space.

My main priorities are:
1. Turf matt that isn’t detrimental to the club’s health long term
2. Net that’s either mobile or can be rained on without deteriorating
3. Net that’s big enough for errant shots/shanks (brothers and roommates aren’t the greatest golfers)

One main question I’ve been thinking about is whether it’s better to put some posts in the ground and hang some layers of netting or get a portable net that you set up each time you go outside.

Also a side question, are the cheap launch monitors accurate and/or worth it?

Appreciate any feedback

When COVID started, I made a net with pvc pipe and a replacement golf net. Between that and the mat, I think I spent $150 or so.

Matt was fiberbuilt deck. Net was Just for Nets brand. Both purchases from Amazon.

Did you do anything to the corners with PVC to make sure the ball doesnt bound off of them?

Get some of the Almost Golf practice balls, they are durable and have a pretty good flight. I have about 150 yards between my house and my dad's that I hit them in. I can hit driver and they will only go about 100 yards but you get a good idea of your shot shape and flight. I hit wedges with actual balls but if you have a small yard use a sturdy net.
