I understand consistency is the name of the game but I've been so streaky within the round lately. I'll play 6 holes even, 6 holes 10 over and 6 more at par/bogey. The nightmare 5-6 holes can come up at anytime. Worst one to date was 2 over through 12 finished 13 over. Miss it all types of ways too. Not sure if I need a lesson or a sports psychologist but this game is brutal.

Probably have some impact issues..likely flipping a little bit. Sometimes u time it just right and it works. If the timings off the ball can go anywhere. Go take a lesson with someone that has cameras and a gcquad or trackman.

I was standing at 13 tee yesterday.
I was already 13 over. I had a shank on 10 that led to a double. I took 3 from the collar on both par 3s from above the hole.

Finished 13 over.

For me, the putter got hot and I hit one great iron shot and a couple of good pitches.

I struggle IF I try to swing “harder”.
“Slow is smooth, smooth is fast” helps me.
Consistency for me starts with the putter.

Go take a lesson. There are a number of things that could be the issue. A good instructor can help with the mechanics and at least the basics of the mental side.

I’ve found that we make the game harder than it needs to be.

Identify the scoring holes pre round and try to do no worse than bogey on the others.

I’ve started playing “boring” golf lately and eliminated my blow up holes.

This is likely it. Swing path and impact are all it really comes down to. You do those things right and the misses become tolerable. You can miss hit a shot with good form and it doesn’t hurt you nearly as bad. Hell the pros hit “bad” shots all the time and they wind up fine.

Yea it makes sense. My miss was a slice when I started playing. I spent a long time focusing on path to eliminate the over the top. Now my shot is a right to left shape, can be anything from straight to a pull. Strangely enough I tend to be much more consistent with woods and longer irons. The pull can be really bad with scoring irons and wedges. I try to waggle an exaggerated in to out path and end up pushing or shanking right. I have a stronger grip and suspect the face is closed relative to path at impact. Not sure what to do to fix that, if I try to square it up through an in to out path it seems like it would just be a push. How would you narrow your miss / get a more neutral shape?

I do better when I narrow my stance with shorter clubs.

I think it helps me get the ball position right.

I often hit shots with my feet together warming up.

Maybe you can open the face a little on your short irons?
Ball position may need to be more central on the short irons?
Get a lesson.

I would recommend playing around with weaker or stronger grips to see what that does. Also highly recommend the G snap training tool. But remember if you’re slicing the club face is open at impact, if you hook then it’s too closed. Grip and wing path can correct any of those. Tinkering can help find out what works for you.

ETA I agree with the other poster though. Lessons will help you figure out that tweaking much quicker than it’ll click from hitting buckets going through trial and error.
