As some background, I am not a great golfer. This has been my first summer really making an effort to play and become a better golfer. To that end, I have gone from shooting in the 110’s at the beginning of CV to now getting into the mid-90’s pretty consistently (24hc that has been declining). I had been using some 20+ year-old hand me downs and have been incrementally upgrading things in my bag as the season goes on.

For irons/wedges, I got a 5-SW set of Mavrik Max’s a while back and they’re great. Was looking for something to use a little more consistently around the green and picked up the new Callaway MD CB (stands for cavity back) 58 Lob.

I’ve played with it a couple times now and can comfortably say it is my new favorite club in my bag (to the point that I may replace my PW-SW with them). Great for where I’m at with my game as a high handicapper as the bounce gets the ball going up and the cavity back helps me get underneath the ball moreso than my old blade BW.

The sound of the club is nice and the larger face has definitely helped with consistency, but I think my favorite part is the extra 1” of grip to really choke down on the club right around the green. Other perk is that the grooves run all the way across the face to make mishits not so shitty, but even mishits have been rare with it.

I know some of the better golfers on here don’t need a club like this, but figured I’d offer a review of it for the hacks like me to chew on if you’re looking for some new wedges. As a high handicap player, I’d highly recommend looking into these.
