Even if he had a mulligan, that wouldn't count as a hole in one.
I made one on a 2nd ball once and unfortunately know I can't count it.

Yeah, I agree. At the time we didn't really think about it though. It was still pretty wild how it all went down for it not to count.

If it didn't count then there would be almost no business for "hole-in-one" insurance. It counts as long as ther is no mulligan and no gimmick attached to the shot (like pay $5 to move up to Ladies tee).
