xbox gamer tag...stolen? Help!

So my daughter goes to play her xbox one yesterday, first time in about 5 days or so, and can't log in with her controller...her gamer tag name is showing, with her name underneath slightly modified and new avatar. The email address linked to it is an unknown @ outlook.com so we can't reset her password.
She is hella pissed, and my microsoft acct doesn't show her tag associated with my email any more. Was told by on line chat to reset console and re-load tag (after making a new temp one) but no luck....still that same unknown email address attached to it.
Any body dealt with this? any ideas?

It’s likely gone for good if the email has been changed.
Idk if Xbox even has it but this is a great example of why you should always have two-step authentication activated.

I require a code to login on my xbox gamertag. You should be able to do that also.
I set this up after someone stole my account and charged $100 on my debit card and microsoft took 4 months to get it back to me because it was moved out of the country.

Yeah, this account is like 6 yrs old, but it had the 6-digit passcode required for it on her console...but the two-step authentication is only on the microsoft acct linked to it. I didn't get an answer to callback as requested this am, didn't know if you guys knew of another way to get it done or alternate support phone number.
During support chat last night, it was stated that her gamer tag is still associated with my old e-mail address, but on the console, it is associated with a generic outlook.com address. I was logged into the wrong microsoft account when he sent me the recovery link, so it was a huge nothingburger for an hour spent on chat.
I don't want to do that again. Talk to me on the phone.

I was told to create a new account for her to log on while they investigated. When I got callback, was logged into it when texted the recovery link, so it recovered the email linked to the new acct...which didn't need recovering.
Xbox support is a shitshow, btw.
This arse this am sent a recovery link to the bogus email that replaced mine on the stolen profile. Took twenty mins to explain:
1) the email now linked with her profile is NOT mine...duh, she was hacked.
2) the email used to create her profile 6 years ago is defunct/no longer exists but was updated about a year ago;
3) the microsft alias/ original account used to create this xbox profile STILL exists and is still acrive, just not linked to her gamer profile...CUZ SHE WAS HACKED!!!

Did you get you namertag back now?
That happened to one of my kids Roblox accounts, but I did not go through the pain of recovery since there was nothing meaningful to it and the kids made it without an email. Live account would be different.
I have had a dedicated email for the past 15 years just for these accounts and reasons.
