I usually stay in the Magnolia Hotel downtown in Houston. You are by everything and they have a car sevice that will take you anywhere and pick you up. Great when you are drunk at Minute Maid Park.
ETA Plus the pool on the roof is fricking cool and so is the bar in the hotel.

you would pretty much be able to do everything i mentioned before as far as seeing the the nightlife scene for a $10 cab ride from the Magnolia.

The room I usually get is like $150 weekdays and $200 on weekends. They have others though I think.

Nevermind.
The "cheap" rooms have gone up it seems. I haven't been in two years. Looks like they are around $300 a night now. I get a discount on my American Express though.
ETA Nevermind again...that's the suites. Let me look for the cheap rooms.

Aight....a king room is $180 per night and one of the smaller 550 sq ft suites are $200 a night.
I have stayed in the suite but not the king room. It's pretty nice and has a sweet arse jacuzzi and bar.
