quote:I disagree somewhat here. Immersiveness is a big part of the Metroid games for me, particularly the Prime series with it's switch to first person. If they had everything happen on one planet in Prime 3 and you were switching between the Bespin-like Skytown with its roller coaster navigation rails and moments later you're in the oppressive space pirate mining facility, it would have taken me out of the game from stretching plausibility.
made geographical diversity more plausible, but that's a really small gain and they designed the whole game around that.
Having Samus jump planets let the developers open up their creativity. I will concede that the ship part of it isn't really necessary, though. If there is ever a Prime 4, they could just have Samus find out the space pirates have been using "jump gates" to hop from planet to planet and carry out their latest scheme. From a gameplay standpoint, would this really be that much different than the elevators you take in most other Metroid games? Think about it. It's rare that something Samus does in one unique environment effects another.

I liked 3 better than 2
2 was still a good game but I could never really get into the light/dark mechanic. Would have been just as good of a game without it.
In terms of boss fights 2 was the best game. Loved the boss fights
Original obviously the best. The underwater Crashed Frigate/Reactor Core is still my favorite area in any 3D video game. Shame it's been 10 years since we last got a Metroid Prime game.

I liked the idea of using the ship on the planet and multiple landing pads, but only 2 areas were interconnected and only through one room late in the game when you really weren't going to be there ever again. I guess with the ship is was more execution than anything, and honestly it didn't remove any of the tediousness of backtracking because you had to sit there and go through some cut scenes and for me it just killed the sense of discovery
overall, I pretty much agree with your summary, I just don't think the ship brought that much to the table. I think it could have, but they did it in a way that sacrificed core elements of the experience

quote:I understand. What I think sacrifices part of the core Metroid experience is how isolated I didn't feel in Prime 3 and that's the exact complaint I have of Fusion. Well, that and the game essentially telling me exactly where I need to go constantly.

I really feel like Prime 3 is the Metroid Fusion of the 3D Metroid games. It's a really good game that sacrifices some of Metroid's core elements such as a sense of isolation and an emphasis on exploration.

But was anyone else pretty much crapping their pants just envisioning how awesome a Metroid Prime game would be on the Switch? It is pretty much the perfect controller for it.

Yeah that too. The opening of corruption felt like some generic FPS and not unique at all.
Don't get me wrong its a good game by any standard, maybe a great game if it weren't held to the standards of its predecessor
Metroid fusion was ok. I think a linear metroid was less disappointing in 2d

without a doubt. The Switch needs to deliver to Metroid Fans what they have been craving, another badass FPS style game. Other M was meh to me. They should make a main Prime 4 for Switch.
It needs to happen.

It is, but I think the control scheme would need to change for tablet mode. No one is going to want to do the Wii style pointer setup while sitting on a plane

Yeah, it could not be a portable game.

quote:Why wouldn't they just use something like the control scheme from Metroid Prime 1 & 2? I liked the Prime 3 Wii controls just fine but I don't think future Prime games have to use it.

I guess it would be nice if they had an option to use either, but then the game has to somehow be designed around that.

That's what I'm saying though. He says are you excited and I am because there are so many implementations
Maybe some of the mechanics you see in the title they're promoting now "arms" or maybe that with some kind of VR setup
Personally I think the hd rumble would have a lot of potential in a game like that given what everyone has said about it

Maybe I'm in the minority, but 90% of the time I'd rather just sit back with a controller and play the game the "standard" way, like the Gamecube titles. So, the exclusion of pointer / motion controls wouldn't bother me at all. In fact, I'd rather the game be designed for one control scheme than them try to serve multiple masters.
(I'd also be totally happy with a new 2D Metroid as well.)
A Metroid game, as in a real one and not the last 2 "Metroid" games they've released, would probably sell me a Switch.

Either works for me. nintendo has never let me down with the control scheme for major first party releases.
The few GameCube titles I played I loved the layout and central a button especially for games designed around context sensitive actions.

A 2d game I wouldn't play. I really was digging super metroid but once I played prime I can never go back

quote:Wow, really? I love Metroid Prime but I love Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission nearly just as much. I certainly don't think the 3d titles replace the 2d ones.

other than fighting games and pure platformers, pure 2d doesn't do it for me. I think other m had the right concept as far as a 2d/3D blend but the level design wasn't metroid
I did appreciate it as an arcade shooter but now having played a lot of the other games, I see why people fricking hate it so much.

Metroid Prime is greatest piece of interactive software ever made.
That's where I rank that one.

Prime is a GOAT game because it did everything it was trying to do with perfection.
Making an adventure game into a FPS is no easy task and Prime kills it.
Ridiculously good game.

I was blown away by it to be honest. If I consider how well a game ages, it would be my GOAT. At no time while playing it did I think "this is a 15 year old game"

I never thought I'd be amazed at a 3D game like I was with mario 64 and ocarina of time. Those games were mind blowing, considering I grew up on the 2D versions.
The first metroid prime was the closest I ever got to that experience again.
