Basically that conducting yourself in that manner is the way that you lived in your former life, before God renewed it. It's not that you still won't do those things ever again, but you shouldn't still revel in them and you should be thankful that God has saved you to a better way of life.
It's a constant message in the New Testament. Why do you want to dwell in your old way of life when you have been given such a better one? Be thankful. Move on.
ahh, i was saved at 13. might need a mulligan on this one.

This is America, and no one should prevent same sex couples from having their union being recognized by the government. And if the government wants to call it "marriage" then who the frick cares. The government is retarded anyway. It doesn't impact the lives of those who believe it is wrong in any way, shape or form.
I actually believe this: if America wants to allow same sex marriages so be it. But the second the church acknowledges the marriage, that's where I have a problem. I think this nation went away from the church a long time ago.. so therefore by a government saying someone is married.. imo doesn't make them married - but a church saying someone is married is the important one imo. d('.' - I'm kinda catholic in this view I think?

while it is the preferred situation for procreation (marriage) Marriage is not about sex, it has nothing to do with sex. It is a commitment and sex is part of that (in the fact you pledge not to frick anybody else)
Gay people don't need to procreate...Straight people make gay people.

See, I'm going to nail this down, because I know that "separation of church and state" isn't in any legal document. It was taken from a speech by James Madison and somehow became a precedent.
Too late for that discussion.
There's a long version of why the church feels the way it does about homosexuality, starting with creation and moving on. Another time.

If nothing else, in biblical times you got married at the church through God's word, and through the deciple of Christ that was teaching you the bible.. that was the wedding - none of this guberment junk.. iono.. rofl I really need to get to sleep, you all suck!

hold your horses right there... isn't being gay a choice.....

But would you not say that even though this was originally never in any documentation, that the government hasn't gone this way since the mid-50s?
It's simply because of this that I do not look at government laws in the same way I look at church law.. I follow the government law because: Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. - Romans 13: 1-2
But that doesn't in any way make me feel like their laws are the laws of the church. Does that make since?

no one is trying to force the churches to recognize same sex marriages. I would only have a problem with this if the government or a minority of people forced this on the churches

I will defer to Oswald Spengler here. Religion is connected to every great society, no way atheist can manuever around this point. You would enjoy "decline of the west"

exactly...the definition of marriage is left to the individual. Gay people marrying doesn't affect you because you have a different definition of marriage. The gay community isn't trying to force this down anyone's throat. They just want equal rights. If gay A owns a home, and spends 20 years with Gay B and is the breadwinner so to speak, and then Gay A kicks Gay B out of the home...Gay B is pretty fricked...regardless of Gay B's contributions to the home, property, etc..there is no protection

well, that's like, your opinion man

If the government starts saying there is no god, or creation in any way.. they pretty much already do.. or that killing people as long as it's "justified in some way" is ok.. which they already do.. doesn't mean I believe that these laws change ANYTHING.
I say let gay people get a marriage certificate.. that doesn't mean they are married by the church, through God's will.

the establment clause
I realize we are a nation identified with christianity and there is nothing wrong with that...but frick me if I want the church encroaching on the sovereignty of a nation. The Catholic Church runs roughshod(not sure if that is spelled right) over the italian government. Turkey is a good example, they are an islamic country no matter what they say, except for I believe they could use a "free excercise" clause. Their government actually regulates and controls Islam in Turkey and that's wrong. It works both ways.
It's just better for everyone when they are separate, but at the same time I don't have a problem with religious symobls or writings in public places as long as it is a good message such as
don't kill people
don't steal
don't cheat on your wife
don't be a dickhead to your parents
you get the point

Definitely, but it seems to me that it's become a means for people to start oppressing on the church, not just keeping it separate. I'm all for NOT shoving anything down people's throat. God is not glorified in begrudging submission. It's from a deep and sincere love for Him and His commands.
Just a point I think Fox was starting to hit on in one of his posts, the main point of the Ten Commandments is not that we follow them, which we should try. The main reason they were given, according to Paul in Romans, is to remind us that we CAN'T follow them. We fall short of all of them. Even "thou shalt not kill", because Jesus says that if you have hatred in your heart for another brother or sister, that's just as bad. The TC reminds us that we fall short, and we need a savior. Paul says (my summary) that we didn't know what sin was until God showed us what it was. It's like a child lying to get what he wants. It comes natural, and in their heads, there is nothing wrong with it. So until a parent tells them that lying is wrong and it's not respectful at all, they will never know they shouldn't.
Finch asked if being gay was a choice. Honestly, it doesn't matter if it's a choice or it's genetic. We all have genetic dispositions to do things that we shouldn't, like the lying child, or for men, wanting to sleep with every attractive woman we see, but for a married man, does that mean he should act on it all the time? Because it's in his nature? After the fall in Genesis, everything was broken and corrupted. This world isn't what God wanted. And I feel people that feel that they have it in their DNA to do sin is just a part of it.
I just woke up. Good morning all

Did you see that one of those "staunch" Republicans who is 500% against illegal aliens was asked by a kid, "If you could be any super hero, which one would you be?" .. he responded that he would be Superman.. an illegal alien who ultimately became the hero for America..
