you should give a shitty tip if you get shitty service, but what's shitty service?

Does the server have other people in the section? If yes, then try to empathize. Do you notice the other people in his section running him/her ragged...like asking for ranch then a refill then this then that then that instead of asking for everything they need at once...some people actually do this to the point of absurdity...mostly canadiens.

It took awhile for your food to come out...Is that your server's fault. he doesn't cook the food, just puts in the order. Is he/she running food for other servers and helping other tables (as he/she should) I'll admit that sometimes a server just sucks and doesn't care, but I promise you that is not the case most of the time even when it seems like it. Alot of restaurants have their own unique things...sometimes the server has to make your drink, not the bartender, that takes time and servers have other tables responsibilities...servers have to refill ice, restock cups, etc...like I said every restaurant is different, just try to understand...but with all of these things considered if you still deem it to be super shitty, then leave a 10% tip...it's not a good tip, but hey regardless of whether the server was good you took up their table and time and they get passed in rotation so they have to wait unitl all other sections are sat before they have another opportunity to make money.

2) because your server has to tip out the bartender, host/ess, and/or busboy based on the percentage of what YOU buy not what you tip, not to mention the government will tax him/her regardless of whether you tip, so if you leave a shitty tip you are basically taking money out of their pockets in alot of cases
