I thought if you don't look behind you and pan slowly so you can see him if he's on the side then you can make it. But apparently with each page you collect he gets faster and faster at chasing you, so even if you don't turn around he can still come up and get you.

Yea he's caught me when I wasn't looking behind me or anything.
I actually was walking and turned the flashlight off for a minute and turned it on and he was there

one of the pages says don't look at him, so maybe if you don't look at him you'll have a better chance at succeeding

Yeah if you look at him long enough, from any distance, he gets you. But if you keep him in sight, looking at him and then slightly away, you can keep him in one place to distance yourself a bit.
