Anyone else get this? It released last Friday (11/12). Already sunk 20 hours into it, and I think this might be the best Atlus RPG ever made. The exploration is on point, the battle system is improved over SMT4 surprisingly, and the music/atmosphere is great. My only gripe with it is the performance on the Switch is lacking. Really hope this eventually drops on PC like SMT3 Nocturne did but we shall see.

I bought it, but really it's because I forgot to cancel my Amazon pre-order, and it showed up at my house
Is this game really just battle after battle with while you walk across big open empty spaces?

I'm about 10 hours into it and it's the first game I've actually spent 10 hours on since the Xenoblade games. I absolutely love it!
@Bulldog based on my time with it, it sticks mostly to your standard jRPG "formula"... you fight, recruit demons which you can then fuse into better demons, you do some sidequests, you kill a boss, then move to the next area. I've been told it's basically a Pokemon game with demons (not sure if that's true because I haven't played Pokemon).
But the style, atmosphere, and story in the game are all top-notch and every time I start playing, hours slip away.

To some extent, yes. But I've never found Pokemon to capture the type of atmosphere that SMT has.
This might sound kind of stupid, but to me, SMT is the Dark Souls of turn-based monster-raising RPGs (Pokemon, Digimon, Dragon Quest Monsters, etc.). Similar difficulty curve and punishment if you are playing reckless. I've already died countless times on my Normal run because I got cocky and thought I could get from point A to B unscathed. In that respect, it's really similar to the Souls games.
One that SMT does much better than Pokemon is the story as well. SMTV isn't as narrative-driven as IV, but it's still worlds-ahead of Pokemon. In a way, V is almost like a blend of Nocturne and IV, which is kinda cool.

Yeah I was feeling confident because I'd made it through my first 7-8 hours without wiping. Last night I got a little careless and wound up accidentally entering a boss battle in a bad state and got destroyed. Getting careless in even an easily-winnable battle can have bad results and I like the game for that... it's challenging.
The story is definitely interesting and the cut-scenes are really well-done too IMO. Definitely looking forward to making more progress over the holidays!
