That’s it Gump, no more drinking till NG+

But yeah if you’re a Soulsborne veteran the instinct to avoid attacks gets you in trouble since many are just too quick to dodge since the game wants you to deflect.

Seriously! I beat General Kuranosuke Matsumoto (the mini boss at Ashina Castle) on my second try last night. It's amazing how much easier the game is when you're sober (and pressing the correct buttons).

Yup, that's definitely true, I need to get out of the Soulsborne mindset. I'm just going to drill the Hanbei fights several times before I try Seven Spears again.

ETA: Seven Spears still kicking my arse. Noticing the difference between when to jump and when to mikiri counter is destroying me. I also don't think I'm aggressive enough because he hits so hard. That area is such a pain in the arse to clear out before the fight that I'm skipping it for now.

ETA 2: JUST BEAT HIM!

Have you gotten to the end of Hirata yet? Do not give up. I genuinely thought I wouldn’t be able to beat that boss and I ended up Plat with all gauntlets.

I've been jumping around a bit due to the walkthroughs I'm following, but on Monday night I beat the Lone Shadow Longswordsman in the well near Seven Spears (I cheesed him, but whatever) and beat the Ashina Elite mini boss (Jinsuke Saze). Next up is Lady Butterfly. I've watched some videos on her, but haven't given it a shot yet.

I also spent a lot of time practicing against the blue robe samurai near the Ashina Elite mini boss. They're not bad at all if you can get them one-on-one and use mikiri counter, but man, they attack pretty fast and I'm not too good at ensuring I get the mikiri counter

I haven't played this game in weeks now. I managed to beat Lady Butterfly, the guy on the bridge, and Centipede Giraffe.

I beat the boss in the castle and the boss in front of the castle, but I can't handle the boss on top of the castle. I got to his second phase the first time I fought him and then I could never again get past his first phase. I can survive indefinitely. I just can't do any damage.

The longer I go without playing the game the less likely it is that I will resume, but I already got more than my money's worth in the experience.

I assume you're talking about Genichiro Ashina? Did you watch any guides and whatnot to try and beat him? Can you skip him for now or is he blocking your progression?

Which of Genichiro’s attacks is giving you the most trouble? You want to deflect the normal ones, head jump the sweeps and mikiri the thrusts.

If you need to heal, create distance, do so, and then sidestep immediately to avoid the arrow.

I promise you eventually you’ll develop a rhythm and it’ll click. Ichimonji and firecracker can be useful too.

Beat Lady Butterfly on my first try using this guide: LINK

Just found this YouTuber and I'm loving his Sekiro videos.

Got my butt kicked by Genichiro a billion times when drunk, then beat him on my second try this morning while sober. Feels good.

Just beat Isshin Sword Saint. What a f*cking battle. Never thought I'd like Sekiro because there's no co-op or variation of builds, but man, Sekiro's combat wound up being my favorite of all the Soulsborne games
