I believe it is free on ps plus but dont quote me on that. regardless it is fairly cheap and comes with two campaigns that both tie into the major overall plot with characters that play entirely different and each of them interact through the narrative. I could not possible give this game a higher recommendation for jrpg lovers, manga art style types, and those wanting a robust 2 campaign narrative.
It does psychic abilities before than any game ever before and if you do decide to pick it up i highly suggest choosing the guy not the girl as your first run through as he is easier to play with and the story will make no sense if you choose her first.

To me Scarlet Nexus seemed closer to FF15 than FF16 demo.

I farted around with it after it showed up on the PS+ Extra catalog. Pretty fun, but I had to change the character voices to Japanese. The English VO is god awful.

I wouldn’t really compare it to either. The game is rather easy especially on the default. Set the game hard or very hard, it’s not an overly long game but I have never seen a game pull off psychic ability combat with so many different powers wielded one each by a cast member. If the art style/manga presentation isn’t your vibe it’s unlikely you’ll be able to tolerate this game but if you let it get into the game a ways where combat becomes more mechanical it truly is insanely fun.

How far did you get? And I’m assuming you went with the guy as the first campaign as you’re supposed to?

I made it probably halfway through the guy’s story. combat was pretty fun, but now that FFXVI is almost out, I’ll shelve it until later when/if I get bored enough to fire it back up.

Ah fair enough. I would very much urge you to return to it. The story is insanely convoluted especially just from one side of the campaign. It’s not terribly long so I’d recommend just starting over and also playing on hard or very hard even if it’s uncomfortable at first you’ll be thankful for it. Also the girls side of the campaign while you know they interact at times in the story she plays totally different even though they both have the same psychic power. The guy is more melee sword focused at first and gets skill tree slots close to the beginning to accommodate. Katara uses knifes and much of her style is using her power and creating distance with weapons. So she gets access to better powers and quicker access to the thing that lets you share powers with teammates
