I would also pay $100-$120 for a full version of a FF7 remake asssuming it was huge and high quality.

My issue is with the shell game involved in video game pricing these days.

It reminds me of the "resort fees" they charge you at Vegas hotels. They add a $29.99 fee each night of your stay, only issue is, the fee is mandatory, there's no way to avoid it, it's just inherently part of the room cost. They do it so they can advertise an artificially low room rate to get you interested and then at the last minute before you book they show you the cost with these fees. It's a classic bait and switch technique.

The ~$50 price point for a big, modern video game is almost imaginary at this point. The industry needs to find a way to get over their devotion to that charade.

I actually think they'd make MORE money with higher prices. I don't buy DLC out of principle, but if they included all that shite from the very beginning and charged more I'd be buying it by default.

There's also a lot of people who buy a game and play it awhile and get bored, and don't buy future DLC because they just are sorta over that game and on to the next one. A huge # of those people would likely pay more up front too.

Maybe I'm out of touch with the average joe, but most people who are really into video games are men with plenty of disposable income. The younger dudes don't have families and the older dudes have plenty of money. Outside of young teenagers I just don't see many people passing on a game they actually wanted that costs $100 instead of $50.

I could see it effecting mediocre games, but they need to be staying at $50. The God of Wars, Red Deads, Dark Souls, and FF7's of the world get to charge $100 because they've earned that right.

I would have easily paid $100+ for Red Dead if online was fleshed out before release and didn’t have micro transactions.

Same with other games like Destiny 1 (But I know in MMO style games like that DLC is almost a must because the grind gets old.)

I agree with most of what you said (I would pay $100 easy for FF7:R).

That said, it's hard to justify $100+ for a game when the console itself is $300 or $400 (PS5 looking like $500).

Would a game really be worth 1/3 of the hardware it's running on?

I think that's the main reason they stay well under $100

I'll say this though, I'd never thought a controller (joycons for the switch) would cost $90. I need a new pair bc my son messed them up on Fortnite but i find it really hard to justify $90 for a controller. I can't see $100 for a game ever making it. maybe $70-89 max

I saw that leak guy admitted to it being bullshite today. Going into e3 with no expectations.

Hopefully the ATB is heavy. That is my only hope.

The hardcore players will pay it. I have a scuff for my PS4 and it was more expensive than $100 for a controller. Don’t remember exactly how much.

I don’t believe many casual players play games like what we are mentioning as the ones that could successfully charge $100+. Most people expect 60+ hours of gameplay already for a $60 game and then bitch about it being broken at launch. Can’t have it both ways.

I have an Astro. Looking at around $200. Worth it.

Won’t pay $120 for the 2 games unless I see they did Tifa’s titties justice.
