MS/ABK deal has not closed yet, and the FTC's administrative proceedings will still proceed in October after the deal closes, so MS/ABK would not be engaged in any activity that couldn't be viewed as an "arms length" transaction by regulators.

If that were due to the MS purchase, the PC version would be working too. Increased communication between XBox and ABK, and decreased communication from Sony because they've very publicly refused to talk to MS/ABK recently, could very likely be the reason for this.

It came out during the injunction hearing that Sony did a similar thing with Minecraft and that's why PS5 doesn't have a native version of that game.

this doesn't really have anything to do with the MS/ABK deal. PS3 games aren't backwards compatible on newer systems (PS4/PS5). if those players still wanted to play the old CoDs, they'd have to continue to use their PS3s. all due to the cell processor it uses.

currently, all available PS3 games on PS5 are cloud only and only available with the PS+ Premium subscription. so it could play them, but i doubt Microsoft would let Sony host them.

Maybe not, but currently Microsoft has no hand in this decision. If this is important to Sony, I'm sure they could add it to their upcoming agreement with Microsoft after the ABK purchase closes.

i don't think there's much money in nostalgia. i doubt the young children these days will continue to play the pixelated mess that is PS3/Xbox 360 games.

i expect the current numbers that's skyrocketed over the past few days to die back down in the next few weeks.

You're probably right about that. I was shocked to learn the servers still functioned at all.

maybe. i tend to believe there is a market, albeit a small one, for an old school arcade shooter, one solely focused on 6v6 arena multiplayer. Not a battle royale or some extraction royale. Just a straight up clean old school 6v6 arena shooter.

I think that’s why we see excitement and a push behind the XDefiants of the world and why the old school CODs can pull 10k+ players on a single gaming platform by just turning on their multiplayer servers.

Yup, Activision had talked about taking a year off with a new COD title (before this years MWIII). So why not actually do that and just release a remastered version of BLOPS/BLOPS 2 or something of the like, while giving yourself more than enough time to then release a new title that refreshes the franchise that’s getting stale.

I really wish someone would make one based on Vietnam.

Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam was bar none my favorite FPS.

Did you play the Vietnam DLC for Far Cry 5?

i’d be really interested to see if you compared the total number of active users on MWII(2022) vs All Active users across the OG CODs on XBOX Live this week (COD4, MWII, BO1, BO2, MW3). At a given time on weeknight this week.

Then I think we will have the answer to your question if there is a market for old school 6v6 arena shooter. If there are more players going back getting a taste of that “the way COD used to be” nostalgia vs the current shitshow of MWII(2022), then there is absolutely a market for “old school COD”

i've played a few matches on PC the past 2 nights, and there's one thing i've noticed. it's dated in some areas. especially sprinting. felt like i ran 3 yards and was already out of breath.

i assume you're on a one or series s/x. have you noticed any input lag?
