Is anyone having issues with their PS4 not powering off when you tell it to? I just turned it off a half hour ago and took a shower. Came back and the white glowing light was still on. Turned on the tv with no screen from the playstation. Tried turning the controller on but it wouldn't connect. So, i did the worst thing and unplugged it. It still works, but it scares me everytime i do it. This is like the fifth or sixth time I've done it since I bought it in November. Anyone else having these issues?

Yeah. I'll go to the far right and say enter standby.

Dear friend, not sure why you would assume power off and stand by are the same things.

Well, standby should have a yellow light on, not a white one.

I've never had a problem putting my console into standby or shutdown. I've had turn on problems, but I realized that if I don't have the tv on the input channel when I try to turn it on, it won't turn on properly. No big deal now.

This. If the playstation is off, why is the light still white?

I had to return a launch PS4 that ended up with powering up and powering down issues because of old wiring in the house. The house was probably 70 years old and threw breakers all the time.

If you don't get enough steady amps to the console it can harm it.

You should never actually turn your PS4 off. They recommend standby. Much easier on the system. But I have had that happen and did exactly what you did with no other issues following it.

Hold the PS button on the controller to bring up the menu.

Use Enter Standby if you want the PS4 to stay on but use very little electricity and reduce wear (think putting your PC to sleep vs shutting down). This allows you to boot-up quicker and allows updates to happen while you are away. The light on the console will be a yellow color rather than white to let you know you are in standby.

You can also choose to shutdown from that menu.

I mean I'm not a computer expert by any means but I just don't think this is true.

You have some benefits from keeping it on standby, but turning it off doesn't harm anything.
