PS4 games upgrading to PS5

So I have the physical copies of AC:Valhalla and Madden 21 for PS4 and am going to snag a PS5 ASAP.
So I have two questions: 1. In order to get the next gen versions of those games do I just pop the disc in and it will automatically download the new version directly to console hard drive? 2. If I have my data already saved on the cloud, will it load my progress on the PS4 versions on to the PS5 versions?
TIA

My understanding is you have to buy the PS5 digital upgrade to get the PS5 enhancements to work and then place your PS4 disc in the console to prove you own the game.
If you buy the cross-gen digital version for PS4/PS5 then you get both versions on both systems.
If you just put the PS4 disc in your PS5 and don't by anything else you only get PS4 functionality via backwards compatibility on PS5.
ETA: No matter what you do the progress and trophies should carry over...

I read that DS3 runs at 60fps while Bloodborne is capped at 30 but actually stays there.
Still not worth the money/hassle until there’s a great game(s) that aren’t on PS4.
Should know tomorrow whether Elden Ring will be that game.

This is only true for some games. For example, the only way to get the next gen enhancements for Control is to buy Control: Ultimate Edition (which includes the original game, all DLCs, and the next gen upgrade). For Maneater, the next gen upgrade is included with the PS4 version. So you insert your PS4 disc and download the next gen update for free.

This depends on the game. Trophies for a game like Maneater do not carry over from PS4 to PS5 but do for Xbox One to Series S/X. However trophies for games like Bloodborne, DS3, and AC: Black Flag do carryover, but none of those games have received next gen updates.

Thanks for the info.
I believe the info I provided is correct for most games. There will always be exceptions though.

I’m not really worried about the trophies and achievements aspect, mainly my saves - it takes me awhile to edit my playbooks for Madden and I was balls deep in a franchise I wanted to carry over. Also, if I have to start Valhalla for a third time I’m shoving my game disc up someone’s arse.

All games and save data transfer over to the Ps5, haven’t figured out how to use old franchise saves , so I started a new one on Madden because it does play a hair different with the upgrade.
