Our company has an ESOP that I buy into, but only enough to get their free match. Same for 401K.

Most plans can do that automatically

I'm in with the haven't started a 401K yet club. But I do have a scottrade account that i deposit into and make my own trades.

i plan on starting my 401K soon, but i'm just not a huge fan of Mutual funds. Need to research the right ones.

Just curious as to why you folks like roths

We do the 401k stuff, but instead of other types of savings like iras we use real estate

I think you can just roll it into an Ira every now and then and your investment options will grow a lot

I figure most fund managers are smarter than me, so I roll with the vanguard target funds

Free money is free money. And the rule of 72 works longer in your benefit the sooner you start investing.

Does your company give you the option to use an investment manager to manage your assets? Could be a way to start investing without just throwing money out there.

Tax benefits is what most people say

Assuming the Feds don't figure out a way to tax your earnings

Real estate is a hassle IMO, at least to the extent of my knowledge of it

I believe in Roth you pay taxes up front, which is a smaller amount than the back end where you pay a larger sumof your earnings. But on the flip, your growth potential is lower since you have less money investing to begin with, i think

ETA - i have heard the guvment doesnt like these much and they could soon go away.

Yeah, but % in, % out I think

If you're sure your tax bracket will be higher at retirement than now, the Roth will benefit

Unless what I said happens and they don't let you disburse tax free in 30 years
