Playing Gen I-III Pokémon games on handheld devices

My 6 year old has started to show interest in Pokémon. I am no longer a gamer, but had a GBC, GBA and SP when they came out. Some of my fondest memories were playing the Gen I-III games and was going to get something for nostalgia. I am looking at hand held options and can’t tell what is Chinese trash or not.
Any recommendations from the board? I may get one for myself too

You can buy the option SD cards with games loaded and it will work for most people, but it does have a lot of duplicate games. You can always get their pre-loaded SD and just try your own SD/rom sets later.
It’s pretty easy to get your own SD card, look up a tutorial on YouTube on how to download and install “onionOS”, then google “tiny best set” for a really good rom set.
