Platinum Games may be on the way out (rumor/speculation) + tl;dr

Word on the forums is that Platinum may either collapse or be absorbed and bought out. Directors for Astral Chain, Anarchy Reigns and MGR have all changed their social media information. This follows up with Hideki Kamiya leaving some time ago before Bayo 3 released. They’re most likely headed to CloverS, in an ironic twist of fate, which would be Kamiya’s studio under Capcom. The original studio, Clover, brought games like Viewtiful Joe and Okami but went defunct after Kamiya left in 2006.

Platinum dissolving might spell good news for everyone else, however. Sega and Nintendo have dual ownership over Bayonetta and Nintendo flat out owns 100% of Astral Chain. Small chance Bayonetta may go multi platform if anything happens to platinum. Only reason it has been a Nintendo exclusive for 10 years is because Nintendo helped fund its development when the franchise was in the shitter.

SEGA could release Bayo in a sonic racing game and it not be a breach of contract.


tl;dr: don’t be surprised if platinum is making just gacha games in 2 years or so if they don’t shut down beforehand. Tencent gave them a cash injection not too long ago
