You are going to want to know for sure the output of your power-supply, certain GPUs and hard-drives require certain plugs and it's best to know what you will have if you plan on adding another card or hard-drive.

Max resolution will be 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. A 7950 or 7970 is overkill for that resolution. Save some money and buy a 69xx or CF the 6870.

they match...the 79XX is pci express 3...my current is 2.1, but i've read they're compatible. and they're both 2x6 pin power connectors.

I would not spend that much on a graphics card. Wait 6 months and that price will drop significantly

You come by it honest, I have two EVGA 285 GTXs set up and they run everything I need but I've been mulling over replacing them with one card.

i'll probably take a look at 6970's....so far it looks like they're 1" longer than my current whereas the 79xx is .2" longer...iirc, my 6870 is pretty snug in my case. i'll have to look when i get home tonight. i could probably squeeze a 6970 in there.

you know anything about ram? if i wanted to add more of the same kind that i already have in there (have 6gb, can get another 6gb for $40..(i know, 12gb is a lot, but it's cheap))...i think when i oc'd my cpu, i tweaked the voltage on the ram...would i have to put the newly added ram at the same voltage/frequency as the ram that's already in there?

Depends, gotta make sure the timing is the same for the RAM. Try to purchase more of the same type of RAM you already have,I have heard horror stories of people running with the wrong voltage and BSODing their rig.

it's the same exact ram...guess I'll check my settings in bios and just make the new ram run at the same settings as the old

You are literally wasting money if you go that big. Your eyes can register anything past 60 fps which any 69xx will do at that resolution.

You are correct (Need the same voltage/frequency as your current RAM).

*EDIT: Just saw you are looking at at 69xx. Good choice.

1) Not all X58 boards can run stably at overclocked speeds with all DDR3 slots populated.

2) 6080x1200 is 3 screens, not 4. :) Bezel correction, brah!

3) You need 7970 to run BF3 maxed out on 1920x1200 and keep 60 fps during multiplayer, (and by maxed out I mean 8x MSAA and FXAA High along with all ultra). If you can live with lower AA, go 6950 unlocked or 6970.

researched a little into the adding ram issue, and as long as i add the exact same ram (i'll only be able to add 2gb more; 8gb total...that will give me 4 sticks), i'll be ok. my cpu uses dual channel ram, so i'll gain that advantage along with 2gb more ram in the process.

should have just gone with 2 x 4gb ram in the first place :/

I'm running two 6970's in Crossfire. For now it's more than I need. Everything I play runs at max settings with high FPS. 1920 X 1080.

So much for being an engineer... couldn't even get that simple math right.

I'm fairly certain if you go 4x AA, a single 6970 will run at 60 fps with everything on max. At the resolution, you can get into a debate over whether you can even notice the difference between 8x and 4x AA.

1 6970 can run everything max on 1920x1080.
