After all the years, I finally gave in and bought the battle chest from gamestop. Seems like its gonna take 3 days for it to install..

Can someone give me a crash course in WoW??

yeah

get quest, do quest, get gear, do quest, get more gear, get quest, get more gear, get quest, get 85, join guild, raid, get gear, raid, get gear, raid, get gear, pvp, get gear, pvp, get gear, pvp get gear, etc.

oh, and during all this you'll be using crafting skills to make money so you can get even more gear.

it's more fun than it sounds.

Pretty much what bmy said. Also, find a guild for the new perks.

its not a bad game and I enjoyed it while I played, I just got tired of doing the same thing over and over again after 2.5 years.

Lots of solo grinding to get to max level

Then dealing with random idiots for dungeon groups to gear up

Then finding a larger, more organized group of idiots with mics, for end game raids

Add in a pvp grind and some crafting and rep grinds and that's wow

Stay away from MMORPG.

Stay the F Away from MMORPG.

The games can be a bit fun but at the same time they feed into your obsessive compulsive behavior. Even if you don't have obsessive compulsive behavior these damn games bring it out.

You will spend months doing nothing but grinding to make money. These damn games can be worse than actual jobs at time.

STAY AWAY! Back away from the WOW!

You reactionary people who have bought into the cliches need to stop.

Assuming that World of Warcraft is guaranteed to make you into a mindless, subservient, subscription-paying, acronym-using zombie lends just a little bit too much power to the game itself.

It's good, sure, but hardly a hypnotic tool of indoctrination. If you have discipline in other facets of life, moderating your gaming time shouldn't be a problem.

I've been playing MMOs for the past few years, and have never let one pull me out of reality.

Ah, yes. And in which reality is that old standby considered a witty retort?

I mean, I've never left an obligation unfulfilled because I was busy posting or playing a video game.

The only thing I lose is sleep, and I'd be awake anyway if tigerdroppings were down.

I resubbed for a month just to check out the new stuff that was put in since I left pre-WOTLK.

They've made the 1-60 leveling much easier. I've been leveling my paladin, and he is immeasurably stronger now. It's almost too easy lol.

When I played WoW leveling from 1-30 the first time was awesome.

The first time you play and everything's new, it is one of the funnest games to play IMO

Can't do that for games like WoW.

I've been playing WoW since beta, but I really wouldn't bother getting into it now with Diablo 3 being so close. It's not an MMO ofcourse, but that's a good thing...

As someone already mentioned, join a guild right away. There should be plenty maxed out at lvl 25 by now and these give you amazing boosts to xp, faction, etc.

If you want to level quickly and don't care about lore/story line, start doing dungeons (lvl 15) and battlegrounds (lvl 10?) as soon as possible. Queuing for a dungeon as a tank (Paladin, Warrior, or Druid with the proper talent tree) will get you in almost instantly. Healer is good too. DPS there will be a bit of a wait.

If not, don't do dungeons that much as they will throw you forward pretty quick and make you miss a good number of story lines.

Do a little research on professions and pick two that complement each other (Mining and Blacksmith, Herbalism and Alchemy, Skinning and Leatherworking, for instance).

Visit wowhead.com for tips on quests and other things.

It's a fun game and tells a great story if you take the time. Good luck.

I thought I was the only one

My friend got me to play with him about a week ago. Started off with the free trial and bought the battlechest.

Ever since WoW came out, I was against playing it. The graphics always seemed a bit "cartoony" for me, but after playing it for a few days, Ive gotten use to it. Now, Ive pretty much quit playing Rift, to play WoW.

Did you make a character on Muradin?

If not, consider it. Im in a lvl 21 guild that has been more helpful to me than I would have imagined. Plenty of new people, as well as lvl 85 people to answer questions, help with dungeons, etc...consider joining us.

Ive played for about 48 hours total...give or take...made a Night Elf hunter thats now lvl 60, so leveling isnt that hard.

As for a crash course... Its like every other in depth mmo (Professions, crafting, raids, dungeons, etc...).

I think it is funny how the same people who are playing sports games and the FPS of the day (the most repetitive games out there) are the same people who bash MMO's as being repetitive.
