Are they still offering the $1 upgrade? If so, you could just make a new account and repeat the process. Make your xbox your home console under your old account so you have access to your paid content on your new account. This is also a good reason to still own games on disc when possible - in case you were to ever create a new account. Not many reasons to, but I do it for certain games that have ranked playlists, where I can't play with certain friends in ranked bc of rank gap.
However it may not even work the way I described - I'm not sure if you can join Ultimate under a profile that is on an Xbox set to home by another profile. But you could just ignore the home console part for your old profile and make a new profile, get three years gold, upgrade for $1 and be back at square one. And THEN make your xbox your home console under the new profile, so your old profile will still have access to everything. Then you could continue playing on your original account as if nothing changed.

You can re-up with a couple years of xbox live cards then buy a 1 month gamepass ultimate code and it will convert it 1:1 back to gamepass. I did this just last year and it worked still.

Are you saying you can do this once you have already had game pass and it expired? Without needing another account? I assumed that once you've taken advantage of that deal, it would no longer be available. Like limited to 1 per account or something. This changes everything if so lol. My 3 year conversion ends in two months.

What, must go check.

Yes I went through the process on my main account during the 1 month promo and post expiration. Here’s a more detailed guide of the process

You may not get the 1 dollar deal (may have to pay 15), but everything should convert still

I tried that in January, the 6th month gold card was converted to a 3 month GPU sub. Basically I think they just converted it equal value.

Was your subscription completely dead or just almost there?

I think completely dead but I'm not 1000% sure.

Details
1. Waited for GP games to actually stop working. If they have a valid CC, you will need to cancel here and skip step 2.
2. Logged into xbox.com and canceled GPU
3. Bought 3 years of Gold on Amazon
4. Redeemed codes on xbox.com
5. Converted to Game Pass Ultimate for $16

Awesome news. I ended up getting a Series X for my bday, the All Access deal with 24 months of GPU. So this trick will probably no longer work before I need to re-up. But hopefully this can help more people get huge savings on an awesome service.
